The Riverdale Housing Action Group is a non-profit organization that has existed since 1986 to provide rent-geared to income housing, support services and community programs to low-income women and children. Tenants experience many barriers such as poverty, family break down, violence and mental and physical health conditions. As part of our many free community programs, RHAG is involved in a Community Garden Initiative with tenants, youth volunteers and local community members. The group meets once a week and gardens at a RHAG property and plants organic food.
RHAG is seeking knowledgeable volunteers to assist with community gardens amongst three of our Social Housing properties which are located within the Beaches/East York neighborhood. Volunteers could begin in the fall season of 2012 and continue through until the spring & summer season of 2013.
Within these volunteer positions, there will be a variety of opportunities to facilitate workshops that will educate and support capacity building for the tenants within our community. As a volunteer you will be helping to increase food security for low income women and families, building relationships and stronger communities, and will be contributing to the creation of a sustainable, grassroots project that will greatly benefit both individuals and the environment.
RHAG is a Registered Charity, No 89773 7722 000. For more information on programs please visit www.rhag.ca . If you have any questions regarding this volunteer opportunity, please contact Jennie Ernewein at (416) 469-3278.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Jennie Ernewein, MSW
Support Services Coordinator
