Community Cafe Project

TTo members,

 

Rebecca and a few of the Transition Don Valley folk are working on developing a community cafe that will build community resilience by offering a place to meet neighbours and buy local, organic food; ensuring that the sustainable food they sell will be affordable; and supporting local food producers.  Transition Toronto is very pleased to be able to support this project.  THE PROJECT NEEDS YOUR HELP to get off the ground.  Here's Rebecca's message about the cafe…

Transition Toronto put in strong showing at Permablitz

This past Sunday was one of the first of the many "Permablitzes" to happen this summer.  The Permablitz Programme is run by The Permaculture Project - GTA (TPP - GTA) and involves people showing up at a garden, back yard, or any space, and turning it into a permaculture food garden.  Participants learn about permaculture through the direction of TPP - GTA Director Toyin Coker, the designs of certified Permaculture Designer Douglas Barnes, and, most importantly, through doing the work…

What other Transition Towns are doing - #2: Borough of Haringey, North London, UK

Little did I know when visiting my sister in London, UK, over Easter that her neighbourhood was, in fact, a Transition "muller"! (i.e. not yet official but "mulling it over") Quite coincidentally, I found out about the Crouch End & Hornsey Transition Initiative (CHATI). Nice acronym. And I still can’t stop giggling about the name “Crouch End”...

Like food? How about joining a CSA this season?!

A new member (Ann Marie) recently posted about a CSA with growers in the Kawartha region called the Kawartha Ecological Growers, that was already more than 50% sold, and it gave me the sudden urge to post about this great way to get food direct from the farm and support local farmers at the same time.
