RICHARD HEINBERG LIVE - SNAKE OIL: How the Petroleum Industry’s Misleading Promise of Plenty Imperils Our Future at Room 1050, Earth Sciences Building, University of Toronto

March 21, 2013 from 7:15pm to 9:30pm
This March 21st, we are extremely fortunately to have Richard Heinberg in Toronto, live at the University of Toronto.  Richard's talk will be on:SNAKE OIL: How the Petroleum Industry’s Misleading Promise of Plenty Imperils Our Future Oil, coal, and natural gas are finite and depleting, while burning them changes Earth’s climate and compromises our future, so you might think that curtailing their use would be simple common sense. But there are major players in the energy debate that want to…See More

hi Andrew,

I have been folowing your posts and have plans to attend and get involved but right now Im working with evergreen brickworks to create a training weekend for the volunteers, we lost a facilitator at the 11 hour to run a 45 minute presentation on waste management, they sent the power point which could be used as a prop , but our hope was that the presentation would contain more inside info on what actually, happens with the waste recycling collected right now hopes and plans for the future , or even challenges and realities.. even some permaculture conection.. Would you know anyone that might be interested to be involved? even yourself.. i know such short notice but had to try!

it would this Sunday 2-3pm at the Brickworks on Bayview ave to about 10-15 people transaportation costs drinks after and possible some compensation, but mostly for the experience spreading the word and practicing skills.

any body to recommend vastly appreciated ..

Jill !

Thanks for the welcome, Andrew!  We've just started connecting with the midtown group, and are looking forward to getting involved in our neighbourhood as a starting point.  Will definitely touch base when we're ready to help out a bit more.  Looking forward to meeting you at some of the upcoming events!

Thanks for the warm welcome, Andrew! I'm slowly gaining ground in my knowledge and practice of sustainable self-sufficient urban living, and look forward to both learning and offering my talents for this worthy endeavour!

Hey Andrew,

haha, 40 hours a week might be a little ambitious, but this summer I am definitely looking to work closely with a local environmental organization. I am a third year student in environmental studies at York University, eager to explore environmental and social issues outside the textbooks. If you are still interested in the idea of a writing workshop, or looking for volunteers, let me know. :)

Thank you for writing, Andrew! There is actually a place I thought would be ideal for a small food forest. Fred Hamilton Park is on Shaw St between College and Dundas and has a plot of land that used to be a community garden but is obviously abandoned/neglected. It is park land so I believe we'd have to go through the local councillor (Mike Layton?) to do something about it. I don't have hands-on permaculture experience (yet!) but know of its potential and that spot would be awesome. It's walking distance from where I live now but I'll be moving to the St. Clair area soon (I can start another food forest there next year!). Are there Transition members in the College/Dundas/Ossington/Bathurst area? Also, because I'll be moving, it's hard to start community work where I am, but meanwhile would be happy to start informing people and spreading the word.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the message last week...I am really looking forward to learning, well, all that I can! I have signed up for the permaculture blitz, but I had at first said maybe, so I am not sure if the spots are filled...if you could let me know if there is still space for me, that would be great.

I am planning on attending the meeting this Thursday for sure, and while I missed the Training for Transition this weekend (missed the registration by a couple of weeks) I would defintely be interested in the future.

Cheers!

Karen
