Transition Toronto

Supporting and nurturing the growth of a more resilient Toronto

Venue Coordinator

Job Location: Toronto, Ontario
Position Type: Volunteer

Description:  One of Transition Toronto’s core activities is running community events, such as film nights, workshops, discussions and community consultations.  Securing an appropriate venue well in advance of events is crucial, and usually one of the biggest stumbling blocks. We are looking for a venue coordinator who – once provided with the details of a proposed event – can find and book a venue (e.g., community centre, library) in an appropriate location in Toronto, book or otherwise arrange the required technical equipment, and negotiate the right price (cheap or free).

A Venue Coordinator would present a number of potential venues to the Transition Toronto Steering Committee, book the chosen venue, and send venue confirmation to the Committee. This position is critical to the smooth practical functioning of Transition Toronto. Venue booking is usually a very time-sensitive task.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Identify event-appropriate venues.
  2. Book venues.
  3. Create and maintain a list of available venues, which includes venue descriptions and relative strengths and weaknesses of venues.
  4. Communicate clearly, effectively, and reliably with the Steering Committee

Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Problem solving skills
  • Persistence
  • Reliability
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Access to a home computer and the Internet

To apply, email the Transition Toronto Steering Committee at transitiontoronto@gmail.com
