Transition Initiatives typically form various sub-committees or working groups to split the work into manageable chunks, and tap into the collective pool of skills and genius that exists within the community. This enables a better focus on specific projects and interests. Each group develops its own methods and activities, yet remains under the umbrella of the project as a whole, i.e. the overall goals of Transition Toronto.
Our current sub-committees or work groups need updating! We have currently:
Awareness-Raising: (Director: John Fleming) Host film nights; host presentations and meetings on Transition Towns, peak oil, climate change and related topics; plan city-wide events; help with neighbourhood-specific events; produce print materials; presentations etc.
Heart & Soul: (Director: Martina Rowley) This is the party group! Well, actually, it is meant to keep our members positive, energized, making connections, and having fun during all our hard work. Might include, e.g. potluck dinners, wine & cheese events, barbecues, field trips, yoga classes, drumming circles, or anything else. Also includes conflict mediation should the need arise (which we hope not).
Food Working Group (part of EETE group; Director: Brin Conard): Find unused spaces for growing food or planting trees and shrubs (including fruit or nut bearing); organize backyard sharing; set up harvest sharing; host classes on food growing and harvesting.
Networking: (Director: Marisa Meléndez) Establishes connections with non-profit groups and organisations, and small environmentally minded businesses across the City.
Reskilling: (Director: Daniel Bida) Find skilled and/or trained presenters from within our members, or anywhere in Toronto; organize workshops for city-wide audience, or neighbourhood-specific audience; run our new Transition Skills Institute
If you would like to join one of these work groups or start a new one, please contact either the Director of that group (as listed above) via his or her member page on this site.
If you want to suggest and start a new group, send the Steering Committee an e-mail to: transitiontoronto@gmail.com
