Transition Toronto

Supporting and nurturing the growth of a more resilient Toronto

About Transition Toronto

We are the Toronto chapter of the global Transition Movement, a community-level solution to the problems of Oil Depletion and Climate Change. Transition Toronto (TTo) was started by a few keen and energetic citizens in autumn 2009. Several public meet-ups and information meetings resulted in the formation of its first Steering Committee in November of that year.

With the City of Toronto’s population sitting at around 2.5 million, we decided our best plan of action was having TTo as the umbrella group, while promoting and assisting the formation of small Transition Initiatives on a neighbourhood scale. This allows communities to form a group that can work on areas specific to their needs, challenges, and goals.

Our member numbers on the website have been growing steadily. We have active groups in the east, the west, and midtown. See "Groups" or “Neighbourhoods” for locations and details.
This TTo site will be the central point for information and will – at least initially – host the information and members of the developing neighbourhoods.
