e are organizing a weekly FREESKOOL session at Occupy Toronto to start educating people on permaculture/organic/veganic/urban/community agriculture. About soil, seeds +saving, mulching, spacing, timing, companion planting, composting, pollination, extending the season, beekeeping, wild edibles, native wildflowers, harvesting, canning, preserving, winterizing, and the 'social dimensions' of guerilla and community gardening.
If you have any topics you want covered, if you are capable of teaching classes, or know of someone who can share this knowledge, let us know! Also we are collecting gardening/food related books for the Open Library.
We have three announcements to share plus some useful social media links.
1. Attached in this email is a bare-bones organizational/volunteer structure with a list of current and potential tasks that are open to anyone with free time, interest or passion. Please read it over carefully and consider how you might like to get involved! Email us back or join us at our next meet up if anything speaks to you.
2. The folks at The Permaculture Project - GTA are leading a Permaculture teach in at St.James Park in the gazeebo from 1230-330 on Sunday Nov.13th . The focus will be on social and physical permaculture and how people relate to each other and space (safe spaces, non violent communication, land +ground care/cover, winterizing). Should be a great event, see more details here -> http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=135241649914639 . See website here - http://www.thepermacultureprojectgta.com/
3. Just prior to the Permaculture Teach IN , Occupy Gardens Toronto will have a brief meetup/orientation starting at 12noon also at/by the Gazeebo at St.James Park. If you would like to learn more about the project, or get involved, stop by and say hello - we'll have an Occupy Gardens sign! Then join us afterwards for the Permaculture teach in!
