Transition Toronto

Supporting and nurturing the growth of a more resilient Toronto

Hi people!

As some of you may know, I moved recently (actually about 5 months ago).  And now that I've recovered from moving, LOL, I'd love to find fellow Transitioners in my new area to get doing stuff with!  Anyway, I'm now at Bloor and Ossington.  So, would that count as part of the Annex?  Not sure.  Anyway, would love to find out what's going on around here!  I just joined the Green Neighbours 21 mailing-list (I hope, if it worked properly), but would love to find out where my nearest Transition-pod is too, or get one going if there isn't one around here yet.

Anyhow, would love to hear responses from y'all!

Hello Sarah,

Thinking...Dufferin Grove is somewhat near bloor and ossington and I recall there was some sort of awareness event there last year?. I forget who led that...

It's been a challenge for members of the site to locate others in the same geography and also with the same interests etc. as well.

One feature of this site that we started to use about a month ago was the Groups - hopefully by joining a group people can more easily find others in the same geography or with the same interests.

Current options: we have an east end group and a west end group, with riverdale and midtown groups starting up. Or... perhaps start a new one in your neighborhood?

Adrian here.

Yes, I think that counts as the Annex, it could also be part of the Junction.  I live behind George Brown College.  I am part of Transition midtown and I have a blog here on TT.   Welcome to TO and hope this is a good experience for you!

Hi Sarah and Adrian,

Bloor & Ossington is part of the neighbourhood "Bloorcourt Village" (so neither Annex nor the Junction). Remember the neighbourhood mapping The Star did in 2009/2010? Depending which side of that intersection you're in, it shows you being near the four quadrants of: Christie Pits or Dovercourt Park north of Bloor, or Dufferin Grove or Bickford Park south of Bloor.

Either way, it should be an active green area, as it is between Christie Pits Park to the east, and Dufferin Grove Park to the south-west and the latter has several food and community activities in their park, e.g. bread oven I think, farmers' market in the summer, and has a Friends of Dufferin Park group.

Enjoy getting to know your new neighbours around you, Sarah!

Hi people!  Thanks for the responses!  LOL yes, I did check out the groups on this site, but I wasn't quite sure which one I fit in.  Obviously not the East End, but my Toronto geography isn't quite up to knowing, just from a neighbourhood's name, where it is.  LOL I should do something about that!

Thanks, Martina, for that very precise mapping.  That helped!  I know know exactly which one of those I'm technically in!  And yes, I believe there was an awareness thing at Duferin Grove Park last year.  I think Andrew did it?  Unfortunately, I couldn't go because of a scheduling conflict.  But I'll definitely check out Friends Of though!  I was mostly hoping there might be some folks I already know around here to help get me out to stuff.

Anyway, thanks again!

Hello Sarah, I have read about you wanting to meet Transitioners in your area, and that is great.  At the beginning I also thought I was in the Annex Neighbourhood, but now I am know I am outside of this.  With this, I would like to see if you would like to meetup with a few other people who live in or around the Annex neighbourhood to see if we can come up with ideas on how to get more people involved.

I love south of the Annex Neighbourhood, and am very interested in getting this going so that many people can be interested in Transition Toronto.
