Event Description

Are you one of Toronto’s creative container gardeners? Then join Toronto Balconies Bloom, Riverdale Food Working Group and Toronto Green Community for our first online Edible Container Garden Show! We want this contest to showcase the great small space gardens growing in Toronto and inspire container gardeners across and beyond the city to get creative with their growing. Anyone growing any kind of edible plants in a creative container is invited to participate.

Photo submissions will be posted online and will compete for great garden prizes to be awarded by a panel of celebrity gardener judges. Prizes will be awarded based on criteria such as creativity, innovation, aesthetic or educational value, success in addressing a goal such as providing evening or seasonal interest, using native plants, or tackling a particular micro-climate challenge. In addition, there will be a category for best container grown by youth (under 18 years old). Winning submissions will be posted on the Toronto Balconies Bloom website and may be part of a photo exhibition afterward.

Want to participate? Here are the guidelines:
75% of the plant material must be edible. This can include edible flowers, vegetables, fruits, and herbs.
Containers must be salvaged, recycled, reused, reusable, DIY or handcrafted. See samples from our 2009 show http://www.torontobalconiesbloom.ca/insp-proj.html#edible.
While the focus is on an individual container, we recognize your pot might look its best or reveal its unique qualities within context. Maximum two photos per participant!
Photos are to be the property of contest participant. Organizations are encouraged to support their community members with photography and image submission.
Entry must be in JPEG format and no larger than 250 KB. Images must be no larger than 1000 pixels long, 72 dpi and saved at quality level 12.
All submissions need to include entrant’s contact email address, location of photograph and, if applying for youth category, year of birth.
All submissions must be accompanied by a summary of up to 150 words that describes plants, materials used, and any relevant explanatory information.

Send your submission to TBBphotoshow@gmail.com by Friday, September 30, 2011.
